Description

This creamy and flavorful Garlic Butter Sweet Potato Bake combines plant-based butter, smoked turkey bacon, and aromatic garlic for a rich, savory side dish. Perfectly balanced with subtle sweetness and smoky notes, it’s simple to prepare and versatile for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Sweet Potatoes and Base

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons plant-based butter
  • 1 cup unsweetened plant-based milk

Flavor and Seasonings

  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 4 slices smoked turkey bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon natural gelling agent
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or rosemary, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Peel and slice the sweet potatoes thinly and evenly using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife to ensure uniform cooking.
  2. Cook the Smoked Turkey Bacon and Garlic: In a skillet, cook the smoked turkey bacon slices until crisp, then remove and chop into bite-sized pieces. Using the same pan, gently sauté the minced garlic in plant-based butter until fragrant, releasing its full aroma.
  3. Combine Sauce Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the remaining plant-based butter, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), plant-based milk, onion powder, natural gelling agent, salt, and black pepper, forming a creamy sauce to bind the bake.
  4. Layer the Bake: Grease a baking dish and arrange half of the sweet potato slices evenly. Sprinkle half of the cooked smoked turkey bacon and garlic mixture over the potatoes, then pour half of the sauce evenly on top. Repeat layering with the remaining sweet potatoes, bacon, garlic, and sauce.
  5. Bake Until Tender and Golden: Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 35 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes to develop a golden top. The sweet potatoes should be tender and the bake should hold together with a creamy consistency.

Notes

  • Ensure sweet potato slices are uniform for even cooking.
  • Do not skip the natural gelling agent to maintain creaminess and prevent watery texture.
  • Bake low and slow to keep the potatoes tender without drying out.
  • Allow the bake to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to set properly and slice easily.
  • Adjust salt, pepper, and herbs to your taste before layering the bake.
