Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (one packet)
  • ½ cup plant-based butter (melted)
  • 1 cup warm dairy-free milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Filling Ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (natural)
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup plant-based butter (melted)
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (natural)
  • 23 tbsp plant-based milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the plant-based milk until comfortably warm and stir in the active dry yeast with 1 tsp granulated sugar. Let it sit until frothy to activate the yeast. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and granulated sugar. Add the yeast mixture, melted plant-based butter, and apple cider vinegar. Mix thoroughly until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  3. Prepare the Filling: While the dough rises, mix brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and pinch of salt in a small bowl. In another bowl, melt plant-based butter and stir in vegetarian Worcestershire sauce. This mixture will be spread over the rolled-out dough.
  4. Roll and Fill: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Brush the surface evenly with the melted butter and Worcestershire sauce mixture, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar filling evenly on top. Carefully roll the dough tightly into a log, ensuring the filling stays inside.
  5. Cut and Bake: Slice the rolled dough into approximately 2-inch thick pieces. Place the slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Let them rise for another 30 minutes to become extra fluffy. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the buns for 20 to 25 minutes until golden and fragrant.
  6. Glaze and Serve: Mix powdered sugar with plant-based milk to create a smooth glaze. Drizzle the glaze over warm buns for a sweet and glossy finish. Serve immediately or store as desired.

Notes

  • Use warm milk to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Allow sufficient rising time to develop fluffy texture and flavor.
  • Roll the dough tightly to maintain bun shape and perfect swirls.
  • Monitor baking time carefully to avoid dryness; aim for soft buns.
  • Customize your filling with nuts, dried fruits, or additional spices like cardamom or nutmeg.
