Description

Soft Frosted Sugar Cookies combine tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a luscious layer of creamy, plant-based frosting. Perfect for any occasion, these fully plant-based cookies deliver vibrant flavors and long-lasting softness in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup plant-based milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (natural)

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup plant-based cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup plant-based butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plant-based milk (optional, for consistency)
  • 1/2 teaspoon natural gelling agent
  • Natural flavorings or natural colorings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Combine all-purpose flour and baking powder in a bowl and whisk together to evenly distribute the leavening. In a separate large bowl, beat softened plant-based butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly add plant-based milk, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce, and pure vanilla extract (natural), whisking carefully to mix thoroughly.
  2. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula or low-speed mixer, taking care not to overmix to maintain a tender texture. Once combined, cover and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to prevent spreading and keep the cookies soft when baking.
  3. Shape and Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll the dough into small balls or use cookie cutters to form desired shapes. Place evenly spaced on a lined baking sheet. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, watching for edges to turn just barely golden while centers remain soft. Remove from oven and cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  4. Prepare the Frosting: Beat plant-based cream cheese with softened plant-based butter and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Add plant-based milk a little at a time if needed to achieve spreadable consistency. Stir in any natural flavorings or colorings desired. Finally, carefully mix in the natural gelling agent to set the frosting to a creamy yet firm texture. Chill briefly if necessary.
  5. Frost and Decorate: Once cookies are fully cooled, generously spread or pipe frosting onto each cookie. Decorate with sprinkles, colored sugar, edible flower petals, or other garnishes as desired for a festive presentation.

Notes

  • Chill the dough before baking to prevent spreading and maintain softness.
  • Remove cookies from oven as soon as edges start to color and centers look set but soft to avoid overbaking.
  • Use room temperature plant-based butter and cream cheese for smoother, creamier frosting.
  • Add plant-based milk gradually to control frosting texture without making it runny.
  • Store finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days to keep them soft.
