Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 3 tablespoons plant-based butter, softened
Garlic Butter (plant-based) Brush
- 1/4 cup plant-based butter, melted
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm water with sugar and sprinkle the active dry yeast on top. Let it sit for 5 minutes until bubbly and foamy. Then add flour, salt, and softened plant-based butter. Mix until a sticky but workable dough forms.
- Knead and Let Rise: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until soft and elastic. Place dough in a clean bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide into equal portions and shape each into a smooth ball. Arrange the balls closely in a greased baking dish to encourage soft, pull-apart rolls.
- Make the Garlic Butter (plant-based): While rolls have a second short rise in the baking dish, melt plant-based butter and stir in minced garlic, chopped herbs, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural). Set aside.
- Bake and Brush: Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes until golden on top. Immediately brush generously with the prepared garlic butter while rolls are still warm to lock in moisture and flavor.
Notes
- Use warm water, not hot, to activate yeast properly without killing it.
- Do not skip the second rise for light and airy rolls with a soft crumb.
- Brush garlic butter on rolls right after baking for maximum flavor absorption.
- Cover rolls loosely with foil after baking to keep them warm and soft.
- Customize fresh or dried herbs to match preferred flavor intensity.
